About Cosmo City: A Vibrant Tapestry in Johannesburg

My Cosmo City is Cosmo City’s dedicated community platform — a local online directory, community news hub, and classifieds service built specifically for the people who live, work, and do business in Cosmo City, Johannesburg.

We are not a national platform trying to cover everything everywhere. We are a hyper-local platform doing one thing well: serving the Cosmo City community.

But Cosmo City’s appeal extends far beyond its demographics. It’s a thriving community ideally situated near three major roads: Malibongwe (Hans Strijdom), DF Malan, and Northumberland. This prime location offers excellent accessibility. The city itself sprawls across 1,200 hectares, with a remarkable 15% of the area dedicated to parks and recreational spaces. This commitment to green spaces fosters a healthy and active lifestyle for residents.

But that’s not all. Cosmo City boasts the full range of municipal services and social facilities. Twelve schools, three shopping malls, health facilities, police stations, a community center, a library, a cemetery, and numerous churches ensure residents have everything they need right at their doorstep.

Why My Cosmo City Exists

Cosmo City is one of Johannesburg’s most vibrant and underserved communities. With over 100,000 residents spread across more than ten extensions, it is a large, growing suburb — yet for most of its existence, it has had no dedicated local media platform, no central directory of local businesses and services, and no reliable place for residents to find what they need close to home.

When a Cosmo City resident needed a doctor, they searched Google and got results from Randburg. When a local business wanted to advertise, they had no affordable local option. When something happened in the community — a clinic closed, a new development was announced, a road was being upgraded — residents heard about it through word of mouth on WhatsApp, if they heard about it at all.

My Cosmo City was built to change that.

We launched to give Cosmo City residents a single, trusted, local platform where they could:

  • Find doctors, schools, beauty salons, restaurants and other local businesses in one place
  • Stay informed about local news and community developments
  • List their own businesses and services for free
  • Buy, sell and advertise to a genuinely local audience
  • Connect with the community through local events, guides and news

What We Cover

Community news: We cover local developments that affect Cosmo City residents directly — from the Gautrain expansion gazette that named Cosmo City as a major junction, to the closure of local clinics, to infrastructure upgrades on South Africa Drive. We cover Cosmo City at a level of detail that national and regional media cannot.

Local business directory: Our listings directory covers doctors, medical centres, pre-schools, beauty salons, restaurants, guest houses, parks, shopping centres and more. Every listing is a real Cosmo City business. We also cover the broader Cosmo City area including services accessible to residents within a reasonable distance.

Practical guides: We publish long-form practical guides on the things Cosmo City residents actually need to know — how to find a school, how to stay safe, how to navigate load shedding, how to rent a room safely, how to start a business. These guides are researched, updated regularly, and written for our community specifically.

Events: We publish monthly events guides covering what is happening in Cosmo City — community meetings, school events, public holidays, grant payment dates, and local happenings.

Classifieds: Residents and businesses can post free classified listings — jobs, rooms to rent, items for sale, services offered.
